Weaken Him?

“Tzur yeladcha teshi” is translated by Chazal “You have weakened Hashem”. Strange thing to say. How can an Omnipotent G-d be weakened? Can one weaken the All-Powerful!?

One of the kinderlach suggested that He is not weakened, however in the eyes of people He is weakened, for people think Him weak when He doesn’t take action.

I suggested that Hashem set this world up so that our Mitzvos fuel Hashem’s ability to act. Just as a powerful stereo system will appear weak if its batteries are worn-out, so too does Hashem appear weak when we don’t do the Mitzvos necessary for Him to act. And the Pasuk points out the absurdity of it all; here He is the Tzur – the Rock, the All-Powerful, and He even made us, and yet we are so audacious as to weaken Him!
