Kingship

We discussed with the kinderlach the concept of leadership and being chosen to be the king. Perhaps Yehudah was no more a tzaddik than any of his brothers; rather the reason he was chosen to be king was because when he spoke, people were moved to action. He led people. And that’s what he had that made him king. Just as some people sing more mellifluously than others because of the voice they were blessed with, and there is little way to change that, so too the quality of “leadership” is a talent that one is born with, a talent like any other. We can develop our potential in the area we choose, sometimes even surpassing a person naturally talented in that area, but we can never make ourselves be better than someone naturally talented would be if he was to put in equal effort. And Yehudah was talented to be a leader. That’s why he was king!
