Jewish pride

We discussed Rashi’s comment that the Torah tells us how important Timnah was – the sister of Prince Lotan – in order to realize how famous and important Avraham was considered in those olden times. Where does this bring us? We have to know that we are nobility. Simple as that. To paraphrase Disraeli; when the grandfathers of the English lords were naked cannibals running around the British Isles, our ancestors were worshipping in the Temple. We have to feel a certain self-pride in who we are. We will be better Jews for it, and more committed to our Torah. We find in the Gemarrah a woman standing up for her rights by exclaiming “A woman, who’s grandfather [Avraham] was so wealthy as to own 318 slaves, complains before you and you take no notice!?”
