Halachik man

Yosef warned his brothers”do not become agitated on the road!” Why would they become agitated and what is this all about? Our sages say this means that they ought not to involve themselves in a halachik debate, something usually involving agitation. Why would they involve themselves, that Yosef should have to warn them? I suggested to the children that to the children of Yaakov everything had halachik significance. If suddenly they learned that their kid brother is king, this prompts halachik questions. What is their obligation of honoring someone who is both a king and a kid-brother? Does one compromise the other? What is to be the relationship between Yehudah, also a king, and Yosef. Which of these two kings gets precedence, who do the brothers have to honor more, and so on. Yosef knew that they would immediately involve themselves in these questions, and that is why he felt it necessary to ask them not to get too involved in them. This taking stock where one stands Halachicly means that keeping the Halacha, i.e. doing the will of Hashem, stands at the center of one’s concerns. It is the very hallmark of a servant of G-d.
