Gone Forever…

Those who were impure at the bringing of the Pessach demanded a second chance. If one is free of obligation, prevented from fulfilling a mitzvah through no fault of his own, why then seek it?

What is the nature of a Mitzvah? A “Lav”, a sin, may blot ones record. It is something that has to be cleaned off or otherwise arranged, but it can be rectified. An “Assei”, a positive mitzvah, on the other hand, is assets. Someone who misses it has lost it for good. In fact there is little punishment for missing a Mitzvah – its eternal loss is its own punishment. Mitzvos are the spiritual property we possess, that which will last with us forever.

That’s why these people refused to accept this loss, for it meant going lacking forever.

Let us take heart!
