Hashem’s family

At the end of the Parsha it says; “You shall be happy on your festival; you, your son, daughter, slave and maidservant, and the Levi, stranger, orphan and widow in your town” Rashi points out that there are four listed here that belong to us, they are; son, daughter servant & maid, and there are four that belong to Hashem, namely Levi, ger, orphan & widow. If we shall look after His, He promises to look after ours. (That’s a pretty good deal when considering that His abilities are far greater than ours!) We spoke of why these are considered “His” more than anything else in town. One of the kinderlach, (or was it the guest?), suggested that because these people are close in spirit to Hashem because they feel that they need Him, they are “His”. I suggested that by definition, since these people have no-one else to rely upon, responsibility for them is taken over by hashem. It’s like He becomes the surrogate father. Therefore they are His business!
